چکیده

We present a new approach to the integration of input devices into virtual environment software systems. Our approach employs a so-called Mapper module as an intermediate between input device drivers and virtual environment application. Major advantages of our approach are full device-independence, including the easy integration of new input devices and emulation of missing device capabilities, interactive reconfiguration, sharing of input devices among multiple applications, automatic selection of devices and interaction appropriate for the task, and high-level support for a large variety of navigation styles in virtual environments.

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition

With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network

Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...

Fly Over, a 3D Interaction Technique for Navigation in Virtual Environments Independent from Tracking Devices

A good 3D user interface associated with 3D interaction techniques is very important in order to increase the realness and the easiness of the interaction in Virtual Environments (VEs). 3D user interfaces systems often use multiple input devices, especially, tracking devices. So, the search for new metaphors and techniques for 3D interaction adapted to the navigation task, independently from de...
